Editors’ Corner
Welcome back to another issue of Editor’s Corner, where members of UV’s Senior Editorial Team espouse their opinions on something arbitrary and divisive. Today, we discuss what Dean Brunnée’s monthly breakfast hour should be called.
Alexa Cheung:
Brunnée’s Canapés
Canapés and the art of eating them are an integral part of every firm tour and networking event. If U of T really promises to offer the best legal education in the country, I think that it should include soft skills such as how to nibble on a prosciutto-wrapped melon slice while positioning yourself as an ideal future colleague to a senior partner. Personally, I also think that there needs to be more savoury foods available during the breakfast hour, so canapés are a great option.
Best food should be better served
Angela Gu:
Brunnée’s Baguettes
Brunnée’s Breakfast Sandwiches
Brunnée’s Bagels
Brunnée’s Biscottis
Brunnée’s Brioches
Brunnée’s Beaver Tails
I’m a big fan of alliteration, so bring on the carbs! Apparently it was called “Brunnée’s Bakery” when Brunnée served as Interim Dean, but some students preferred “Brunnée’s crème brûlée mêlée” – quelle assonance!
Adrienne Ralph:
Brunnée’s Weekday Soirée
According to Google, a soiree is “an evening party or gathering, typically in a private house, for conversation or music.” Apart from the evening element (hence “weekday”), what is this event, if not that? Students gather and converse, and Jackman is basically our house, and it’s certainly private these days.
Annecy Pang:
Jutta’s Yogurt
I like yogurt, especially yogurt with fruit bottoms served in little glass jars. We should have those at the Dean’s breakfast hour. Maybe we do, but I only ever arrive in time to glug some coffee into my heat-insulated mug two minutes before the start of my class. My suggestion would also indicate how to correctly pronounce ‘Jutta’.
Vivian Cheng:
Brunnée’s Breakfast Getaway
Sounds like a great time to get refreshments!
Alisha Li:
Jutta’s Gutta Fruitas
Dean Brunnée will have to serve fruits at the breakfasts for this to work.
